Startup.com Documentary Review
The documentary Startup.com was about the life and death of the start-up company GovWorks.com during the .com boom in the 90’s. GovWorks.com was supposed to connect people with local government through their site particularly with the ability to pay traffic tickets online. Kaleil Isaza Tuzman was a coCEO and he was a charismatic and confident leader. The other coCEO was his techy high school friend Tom Herman. Initially, I thought it was admirable how they kept pushing through, obtaining their goals and making connections despite the pressure and impossible odds against them. However, as the company grew, I did notice a lot of tension within the team, people with different directions in mind and different ideals as well as a lot of poor communication between the company members many who had very egotistical mindsets.
